To be a successful EMT student, procrastination is a tough battle you need to conquer. There will be times when finding the motivation to study feels impossible. Thats why we created a list to help you conquer procrastination.

1. Try not to catastrophize your studies.

Don’t make huge deal out of making time to study! It will only benefit you in the long term.

2. Focus on your end goal.

Remember why you’re working so hard— you want to be an EMT. The road to EMT life wont be easy but it will be worth it.

3. Make a plan of attack.

Blocking out times to study will help you stay focused. When you keep your schedule, you’ll train your body to turn on and focus during study time. Block out rest times too.

4. Optimize your environment.

Remove distractions working in a room without a television. Do yourself justice by turning off your phone during study time.

5. Find an accountability partner.

Have a buddy to help you stay focused and on track— this could be a family member, friend, or fellow classmate.

6. Don’t focus on perfection.

Remember you don’t need to be perfect to pass the NREMT. Take enough practice tests will ensure you make the mark.

7. Reward yourself.

Establish a reward too yourself after a session of studying. Maybe you spend time with friends or treat yourself to a pedicure. Anything goes, as long as you say ‘thank you’ to your efforts.

Try these affirmations to overcome procrastination;

Done is better than perfect.

I strive for Progress, not perfection.

Nothing works unless you do,

One day, one step, at a time.

The word ‘failure’ doesn’t exist in my dictionary.

My works helps me grow every day.

Feel fear and do it anyway!

There is no such thing as perfection just improvement.
